The data were transcribed from videos taken of the focus group and coded with emergent themes relevant to my research question. According to Robson and McCartan (2016), thematic coding provides a ‘thematic map’ of the analysis. The statistical data were used to provide a landscape of students’ experiences using collaborative skills to solve mathematical problems to prior to the research project. A descriptive approach in analysing this data had been used to identify trends, and representational quotations from the videos were used to support the themes identified. This mixed approach to the data analysis provides a holistic picture of my research that tells the story of how gamification supports the teaching of collaborative skills during mathematical problem-solving.
